Fantastic video, however wonder if you could help me. I need to make a work bench that is 3000mm x 1500mm. What would you suggest

  9. HomeAdditionPlus says:

Use a hand saw followed by a chisel

  10. vespako19 says:

I can’t adjust my saw for a 3/4in. deep cut, do you have any other suggestions on how to cut out the notches?

  11. oldbloke135 says:

@jamescolvard lumber is measure as it would be when it was in the tree! You lose some volume when you saw it and then you lose some more when you plane it, so 4×2 planed is 3.5×1.5, and that is probably only approximate. This saves the lumber yards a lot of difficult calculations because they can say for example that a piece of 8×4 can be cut into four pieces of 4×2. If you buy a lot you pay by volume, so obviously they need to be paid for all the sawdust!

  12. gardenvespers777 says:

The one I made looks really similar, but I didn’t do the notches. It was very easy to make. You’re right! Its not expensive to build!

  13. HomeAdditionPlus says:

    I used a square

  14. TheScratchiks says:

How did you make sure the
Glue and screw join was square?

  15. TheSilentchapter says:

Nice project. I do have a suggestions for you. I niticed your screw driver bit hopping. If you bought budget screwdriver bits they can’t handle the pressure of a powered screw driver and the screws them selfs will bend or notch the blades on the screw bit. This will make the driver bit hop and work down the receivers on the screw stripping it out. I suggest buying some name brand high speed (High carbon) screw driver bits. I hope this helps.

  16. HomeAdditionPlus says:

    because a 2×4 is 3.5 inches wide.

  17. jamescolvard says:

How does the 4″ wide 2×4 fit into the 3.5″ lap joint punch out? Forgive me if I’m missing something, but it seems that there’s a half inch missing somewhere, no?

  18. apriltime2008 says:

Thank you very much! I want to build my own workbench to learn more about basic carpentry…Thank you for the detailed instruction video.

  19. cMaXeJIJIo says:

The way you created the grooves-that was fantastic! Never thought of doing it that way! :) Great vid!

  20. DasDirektor says:

I wish I’d freakin’ come across this video BEFORE I built my workbench – lol. I love my workbench, of course, but she a little rough aroud the edges :P

  21. MillyVanillification says:

we used to build this things without using screws and nails :) Only wood.

  22. Tarhini says:

i like the fact you demonstarted this on the floor, which is where most viewers will be doing this project:P

    Hi mike

  27. stryjews says:

Anyone notice how loose the wheel is when he starts it up at the end. LOL

  28. alltelman5 says:

@sucklava your point is well taken. I agree. I’m sure theres someone out there thats missing a hand or fingers cause they didnt disconnect the wire, so im sure it had happned somewhere.

  29. charestg says:

    Great, thanks!

  30. nofingway1 says:

@lclaughton Why don’t you change the oil of your machine (fill and check once)…..then empty the lawnmower’s oil, measure it, and report back for everyone else…..you will demonstrate how smart you are!

  31. infieldpeach says:

I found this to be a help, I have never changed oil at all, yes some of the things were just common sense but for saftey reasons had to be stated. I think that I can change the oil now and not worry about messing it up.

  32. flatpeople says:

this video could have been done in one minute.minus all the safety b.s. boy i’m glad he mentioned opening the garage door all the way, cause i was going to do it in the bedroom closet with the door closed.

  33. lclaughton says:

Will someone get smart and actually specific the correct amount of oil these mower engines take? Mower engine mfg’s should do this as a matter of courtesy and obligation. They just tell you not to over fill it!! All they are willing to do is leave it to you to guess how much oil to put in..The filling and checking is tedious and should not be necessary! Is it a pint or less? I am going to call Briggs and Stratton and get this resolved!!

  34. sucklava says:

@alltelman5 Better safe than sorry, i’d rather have a 0% chance of an accidental start up than a .01% chance. Especially since it takes 2 seconds to disconnect the wire.

  35. alltelman5 says:

I think disconnecting the spark plug wire is way overkill but im sure theres been 1 freak accident start up in 10 million so thats probably why they tell you to disconnect. Mine has a bail to it an d if its not pressed down, theres no way its going to start or stay started.

  36. BIGSABMUSIC says:

he sounds like ted williams a lil bit !lol!

  37. glh23 says:

    Thanks – very helpful!

Check the LiquiVac Oil Change System in Lowe’s. It vacuums the oil out the dipstick tube …fast and without the mess. liquivac.com

  39. kevbevhiggins says:

Thanks, Lowes for proviiding this information

  40. gokartbuyer says:

@HATZld nah it tuned out to be the spring i fixed it by shortening the spring

  41. HATZld says:

@gokartbuyer hi, your problem on the old mower was probs a blocked jet and yeah briggs is the best, i used to have a honda and the idle was all over the place but my briggs i got now is left outside all year round and runs great. i think the problem with some mowers is the governor is operated by a fly wheel operating a centrifugal lever in the crank case wheras briggs use the air being forced from the top to push and pull a lever for smoother throttle responce

  42. TheUFOeffect says:

@gokartbuyer: Daym, you know what your talking about. We sent it in and they had to rebuild the card…whatever that means. i think they replaced the float and some other stuff.

  43. gokartbuyer says:

@austinsfarm i had one exactly like this one (except for the wheels) the govenor springs suck one day it didn`t want to start it was all maintained all good to go but it would kinda start and rev up and down then die i couldn`t figuire it out so i stored it away for awhile took its magneto for my go-kart and bought a new briggs 6.5 toro which is awesome way faster and more reliable ,more powerful , and saves alot of gas and it is a old flathead model and it is from 2009.i only use briggs now!

  44. gokartbuyer says:

@gokartbuyer crank engine over a few times without ignition switch on to redistribute new oil then attempt to start engine . this should work ,if not you most likely have forgotten to clean a part of the carb ,before you try again squirt gas into the air intake.if it fires up for a few seconds then its the carb if not you may have low compression from a blown head gasket which might have happenned.if it does start it will smoke from the excess oil which will clear up in a few minutes.Good luck!

  45. gokartbuyer says:

@TheUFOeffect drain every liquid ,the gas and the oil .clean the carb with a wire from a wire brush ,clean the jet holes , the float and flush it with gas ,then with it apart and with the oil plugs in ,crank the engine a few times and check for oil in the carb .if there is clean it keep repeating this step until no signs of oil in the carb.assemble carb and fill gas tank and add fresh oil to recomended amount .if the spark plug checks out and everything appears to be fine (no leaks) …..

  46. MrWilliamSandoval says:

    @gamesnskate
    Nobody does any more.

  47. MrWilliamSandoval says:

    @th19940305
    yes.

  48. Jungleritter says:

Thanks a lot for posting, very helpful!!

  49. TheUFOeffect says:

@TheUFOeffect: i know for sure i need a new air filter. I took off the air filter to try and get more air in the engine to give it a stronger comustion tog et it going. when i tried to start it i realized some gas was squirting into the air filter…is that bad? also my oil is black..im not sure how thick is thick when it comes to oil. are some oils clear and some black?

  50. TheUFOeffect says:

DUDE!!! i completely overfiled the crank case of thick oil on accident. i forgot there was a fill limit and i was adding oil and witing for it to reach the top of the tank like in the gas tank. i filled ip up about 3-4 inches above the FULL mark. I emptied it and now its att full but still wont start…what do i do? I drained the water form the carb, used a wire to clean the holes in the carb, cleaned the sparkplug…
