Thanks for posting this – have a blown-out frostfree, was wondering how it worked, since it only leaked when it was turned on, even with a huge rupture in the copper. Your video explained it very well, thanks!

When outside frostfree faucets are leaking from where you attach the hose;the only reason for this is the washer is not pushing up tight enough against the seat to stop the water completely. The white nut is a packing nut that compresses the gland (he calls the washer) and that gland prevents water from coming out of the end of the faucet where the handle is located when the water is turned on. If your faucet won’t shut off; your washer or seat or both are bad and have to be replaced.G.L.

    Thanks…
Both of my outdoor faucets are having fits.
Standard faucet so i’ll try the washer since there’s play on the handle near the screw.
    Thanks again…

One of the main reasons that the cap on top (it is called the vacuum breaker) ends up leaking is because the hose was not removed before the cold weather arrived. The faucet should be grading towards the outside of the house to allow all the water to leave when it is turned off. A piece of wood under the valve on the inside of the house will ensure the faucet will drain properly….Have a great day.

The washer he is talking about is called a packing gland. This has nothing to do with your water running if you turn the handle and it doesn’t shut off.The seat is at the very end of the faucet inside the house and the stem has the washer on the end of it that meets up with the seat and turns the water off.The only time that gland will leak there is when you turn your water on.On top of the frost free faucet there is a vacuum breaker,it prevents the water from being syphoned back into the house

Thanks, very helpful. I suddenly noticed a big leak coming from under the handle of my new frostless. The collar nut on the outside did need tightening, but the cause turned out to be back-pressure from the long hose that was attached, that was laying out in the sunlight on the lawn.

I have two outside faucets, one is leaking (hopefully will be fixed by what I’ve learned from this video) and the other one isn’t working at all. Any ideas? thanks.

I am not sure if you can find a replacement for just that little white nut, or bushing as you referred to it. I understand you do not want to replace the entire sillcock due to all the work involved. It might be worth it to spend the $20 to $30 for a replacement sillcock and just use the nut. Though it seems like a high price to pay for a nut, it will be a heck of a lot less work than replacing the entire sillcock.

The little white part that looks like a hex bushing. What is it and where can I find it for Anti Siphon 1019-A. This would really make my day

the plastic round cap is actually the cover to your vacuum breaker. remove the cap replace the vacuum breaker washer and you will be back in business

Who can tell me what that plastic round cap above & behind the faucet handle. That is where mine is leaking.

Odd how it has a rubber washer on the outside, but the valve is deep on the inside. I’m assuming the inside is probably a brass ball type so it doesn’t wear out. They should have made the outer one brass as well. Oh well. Maybe in the next 100 years they will get around to it.
