@urendanger I had the same problem. We bought a home that was renovated and remodeled, the builder used standard gray duct tape to tape the ducts to the dampers on the roof. Fortunately, I went into the attic about a year later to prep for storage when I discovered all ventilation ducts had fallen over and blown into the attic. Mildew was present. I immediately went to the store bought HVAC/Foil Tape and zip ties and secured the ducts. It’s been about a year and they are still holding up!

The housing on this model fits nicely into the square hole. Problem is, Broan-NuTone fans have a mounting plate built into the housing that sticks out about an inch on both sides. Appears that these aren’t meant to be installed from below.

@cmancwr i recommend using a stronger tape along with duct tape to add strength.Better safe than sorry.

I don’t understand how people can say, “don’t use duct tape”. Isn’t it supposed to be for ducting? I will investigate.

He forgot to caulk the gap where the fan met the ceiling drywall. This gap would allow tons of warm moisture into the attic to rot out the roof.

DUCT TAPE? That’ll work about 1 week in a hot attic before it’s crumbly and deteriated.

And ALL of the many products needed to complete this job can be purchased at Lowe’s.

  14. happyinnanaimo says:

Yes, but for everything else, use duct tape.

  15. nevea2be says:

The one thing you do not use duct tape on is on ducts. Use a zip tie and tape that wont easily condensate and loose it’s usefulness.

Another problem this can mitigate is Chlorine released during showers.

Great video of Visual aid and guide from AAMA RLC-2 Residential Installation instructions. It’s definitely a good idea to always double check your products, especially if you customized it.

Good video, but film a video for replacing old
thick aluminum windows. Do I need to remove the 3/4 inch drip edge with a Sawsall, or can I leave it in place. Most older houses on the west cost have aluminum windows. The exterior is usually stucco, or wood planks. There’s a lot of window companies and I don’t know why they don’t produce multiple videos. Replacement windows
have a bad reputation–I’m thinking on milling my own? It might be easier?

remove out side trim —– not a good idea
I replace windows , but do it all from inside
I only remove storm window from outside
and only use shims from bottom not sides
only use regular insulation , never foam
