Josh explains the process of installing a load-bearing beam. This video is part of Disaster House show hosted by Josh Temple . SHOW DESCRIPTION :As other networks build and improve on homes, DIY Network actually has the guts to totally destroy its very own house just to repair it! Disaster House suffers very real damage like dropping a half-ton piano from almost 10 stories high, sponsoring the first sanctioned roller derby inside the living room, and having Page, an 8000-pound African Elephant, help clog the toilet. These outrageous experiments accelerate the typical wear and tear a house incurs and mimic common catastrophes so viewers can discover what it takes to repair some of the biggest mishaps homeowners face today.

The quick-cuts and jazzed up video detract from showing what’s really going on. Good construction filming does away with the BS and shows long, detailed shots so the DIY viewer can actually follow along. What’s the point of having a DIY show if the editing is so damn distracting that it makes no sense?
looks like that house is about 30′ deep and that beam is in the center spanning about 16′… 2 2x10s nailed together are going to suppport the weight of the second floor? yeah, itll work.. not to code tho, it will eventually bow… also, directly under your sill plates are your plywood and floor joists, not the foundation, so you do need to fill the void between the plywood and the foundation.. anybody on these shows understand anything about engineering? Thats1 good thing I can say for Bob Vila
@dawnallisson good tip!
lol Y’all have your heads in the gutter. She said POURING oil.
@debmick6176 it does sound like porn oil
I’d like to see a video on organizing spices where you can see the labels.
Not sure where I heard it, think it was Real Simple, but you aren’t supposed to keep your spices over or next to your stove. The steam and grease will affect your spices and herbs.
Actually, she said “pouring oil”..
yes, she said porn oil!….LOL
Too many “uh…uh…uh”s!
Toastmasters has someone be the “um and ah” counter for each speaker- very helpful!
Otherwise, great, helpful video series – thanks for the tips.
kekekeke
im like that. and when my hubby is a slob, i get pissy and start wishing martin burney (sp?) was my husband.
lol she didn’t say porn oil she said pouring oil
I don’t know but I could had heard wrong but does she say porn oil on 1:59?
sorry it’s not a rotating stand it’s just a stand with the rails. good enough for me
IKEA has this stand with the rail and it’s called a condiment stand. good luck
i always buy the smallest container of spices so I use them before they lose their potency.
haha so true
omg that cupboard…. SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY FLASHBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can find them in almost any home suply store and they’re not really called “lazy Susans” (too stupid) They’re just spice/bottle/jar carousels and people call them all sorts of names. You’ll probably find them by the spice racks or countertop/cabinet organizers and stuff like that. So I wouldnt search for it by name if I were you.
I’ve looked but cannot find the lazy susan you showed with the rail. What brand is it? I can search online for it, if you provide the details? Thanks.
I will try, but my hubby cooks messy.
I label the facing edge of the spice bottle lids.
The rail on that “lazy susan” looks like it keeps small light bottles from falling over and catching in the back corner of the counter.
