I was browsing the web last week and came across a post which talks about unconventional uses for tiles . This inspired me to write a post along a similar theme but with my own ideas.
I have been involved in interior design for 5 years and have decorated many bathrooms, kitchens and living spaces. I always used to sell on or throw away redundant materials but in recent times I have been looking at other uses for these items, here are some of my ideas:
1. Smash them into pieces
This sounds violent but breaking old or unused tiles into pieces and then using them as decorative pieces is great. Get a colourful tile or two, or three colourful tiles, break them up and put the pieces into a little bowl on the mantelpiece. This looks great; you can even fit a tealight candle snugly in there to create some ambience!
2. The blank canvas
This is great for the kids. Get a plain white (or black) tile and some acrylic paints and let your kids go nuts. They will spend hours painting pictures that can then be used as gifts or for decoration in your house.
3. Recycle
Okay this one is a little dull, I admit, but a lot of people tend to throw away spare materials, and these can be recycled. So do it wherever possible!
There is a lot of fun to be had putting your old tiles to creative use, so don’t be afraid to experiment. If you have any of your own ideas I would love to hear about them, so feel free to drop your thoughts into the comments!
